Nate Weyand
Executive Director

Nate comes to Querencia from The Cliffs Communities in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, where he was director of membership services, in support of 2,400 members. He was previously an administrator at Westchester Gardens Rehabilitation and Care Center, a 120-bed Skilled Nursing Facility in Palm Harbor, FL. He began his career with Life Care Centers of America of Cleveland, TN, where he served as Licensed Nursing Home Administrator at Darcy Hall of Life Care, a 220-bed Skilled Nursing Facility in West Palm Beach, FL. Nate studied for his MBA at North Greenville University and received his B.S. in health care administration from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN. He has been a board member of Upstate Senior Living and Upstate South Carolina Alliance – Regional Economic Development Consortium. At North Greenville University he served as board member and vice chair on the Christian Ministry Scholarship Fund and as a member of its Crusader Club Council.

Tim Stuteville
Associate Executive Director

Tim joins us from The Wesleyan at Scenic in Georgetown Texas, where he served as Administrator for the Skilled Nursing Facility. He previously held that position at skilled nursing centers in Belton, Kingsland and Bertram, Texas. Tim is on the Board of Directors of Leading Age Texas, the independent association of not-for-profit senior living communities, which named him its 2012 Administrator of the Year. Tim holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and a Bachelor of Science in Health Professions from Texas State University, where he also received his designation as a Licensed Nursing Facility Administrator.

Joan Ford
Director of Sales and Marketing

Joan joined Querencia in 2004 as the Marketing Coordinator and Office Manager, before construction of our community had even begun. She went on to be the Senior Living Counselor for Assisted Living and Memory Support in The Plaza, then served as the Senior Living Counselor for Independent Living for seven years. Her previous experience at Querencia has helped to prepare her for her current role as Director of Sales and Marketing. Previously, Joan handled marketing and outside sales for the 38th St. Pharmacy where she was also a certified pharmacy technician. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from The University of Texas at Austin.

Jill Conant
Marketing/Move-in Coordinator

Jill’s passion for helping others, coupled with her marketing background, make her an excellent fit for our Marketing/Move-in coordinator position. A native Austinite, she earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Marketing from the University of Texas at Austin. Jill held marketing management positions for both CompuAdd and Dell Computer Corporation and served as a leader for numerous volunteer and philanthropic projects over the past 20 years. When you are ready to make the move to Querencia, Jill will be here to help you manage all the details and ensure your transition is a positive experience.

Marcia Lang
Admissions Coordinator

Marcia comes to Querencia from The Summit at Lakeway, where she was Admissions Coordinator.  She brings a wide range of business and health care experience to her position. Marcia has served as a medical billing specialist at IDTC, a facility for mentally disabled children in Indianapolis, Indiana; as office manager at the Voita Citrus brokerage firm in Noblesville, Indiana; as office manager at Beverly Enterprises, a nursing home and rehab center in Indianapolis; and as office manager at the Village Christian Park nursing home.

Lauren Struby
Plaza Marketing Manager

Lauren comes to Querencia with a wealth of experience including sales & marketing with Central Texas Rehabilitation Hospital in Austin, and their parent company, Kindred Hospital, in Dallas. She also served as Marketing Director for a 300-bed community in Dallas that included Assisted Living, Memory Support and Nursing.  Lauren has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Baylor University and has completed all coursework in Long Term Care Administration. 

Julie Latson
Resident Care Manager

Julie first joined Querencia when the community was founded in 2007, serving as senior living counselor and community relations coordinator. She returns to us from The Summit at Lakeway, where she was Director of Sales and Marketing. She previously worked at Heritage Park Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing as Marketing & Admissions Director, and at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center as patient advocate & representative. A graduate of Sam Houston State University, Julie was a member of the Gold Key National Honors Society. Julie recently completed her Masters of Healthcare Administration at Texas State University and is also a certified Powerful Tools for Caregivers trainer.

Marcella Briseno
Assisted Living Manager

Marcella joined The Plaza at Querencia with more than 16 years’ experience in nursing, including more than ten years’ experience in the long-term care industry. Her extensive nursing background includes family practice, internal medicine, geriatrics, utilization review, hospital and rehab. Marcella received her LVN license from Austin Community College and also attended CBM Education Center.

James P. Chudleigh
M.D., C.M.D., Medical Director

Dr. Jim Chudleigh has been a family doctor for 30 years, served as a full-time emergency room physician and has delivered about 600 babies. Over the course of his career, Dr. Chudleigh has had approximately 150,000 patient interactions. Since 2002, he has been a full-time “eldercare” physician, visiting nursing homes and assisted living centers in and around Austin, as well as seeing many patients in their homes. Dr. Chudleigh is a medical director of Heart to Heart Hospice. A Houston native, he earned his M.D. at the University of Arkansas Medical School; he received his B.A. at the University of Texas, Austin, and an M.A. in Criminology and Correction from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas.

Ronald Cooke
Executive Chef

Chef Ron joins Querencia after a distinguished career at the Austin Country Club, where he rose to the position of executive chef after serving as sous chef, executive banquet chef and executive sous chef. He honed his culinary skills at From the Top Catering; the Austin Club; the Omni Austin Hotel; The Pasta House/The Backyard; Hilton Hotel and the Austin Marriott at The Capitol. A graduate of Club Managers’ Association of America/BMI IV, Food and Beverage Management at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, he has attended the Club Chef’s Institute at The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. He is a Certified CARE Trainer of the American Hotel and Lodging Association and has also received ServSafe Certification. Chef Ron is a member of ACF and the World Association of Chefs Societies. An accomplished ice carver, beekeeper and gardener, he has volunteered for the Empty Bowl Project, benefitting Austin’s Capital Area Food Bank, for 14 years.

Refugio Cuellar
Food & Beverage Director

With more than 25 years in the hospitality industry, Refugio has a five-star resume, including the Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, Wyndham and Four Seasons Hotels. He was a member of the opening teams for both the Austin Four Seasons Hotel and the first John Q. Hammons Hotel & Convention Center at the new Frisco Embassy Suites in North Dallas. There, he managed events as large as 3,500 people. With experience in virtually every position in high-end food & beverage services, Refugio helped open Querencia at Barton Creek in 2007 and has ensured our reputation for fine food service ever since.

Tracie Hood
RN, BSN, Director of Nursing

Tracie brings an extensive career of 20+ years in Texas health care to Querencia.  She has spent her entire nursing career working with the geriatric population in long term care, home health, adults with disability homes and in an acute psychiatric hospitalization setting.  She has held positions as administrator, director of nursing, director of quality assurance and improvement, case manager, charge nurse, and instructor for nursing assistants and medication aides.  Tracie earned her Associates Degree of Science with RN from Grayson County College and her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas, Austin. She is pursuing a healthcare related graduate degree currently.  In addition to her many technical certifications, Tracie also has extensive wound care and diabetes management experience.

Joel Lanehart
Director of Plant Operations

Joel brings to Querencia extensive engineering management experience in hospitality. He joins our team from Doubletree by Hilton, where he worked as the Director of Engineering for six years. Joel also worked as Chief Engineer for two years at Courtyard Arboretum and as Director of Engineering for two years at Embassy Suites Las Vegas. He attended Brazos Port Community College and holds several certifications including CPR, CPO, EPA and TABC.

Marci Protsman
Human Resources Manager

Marci brings extensive experience in hiring, training, coaching, accounting operations and office management to Querencia. Before joining us in 2010, she was human resources manager for the Austin Marriott South. Her career includes experience at Holiday Inn Northwest as front office manager, Fairfield Inn by Marriott as operations manager, and Residence Inn by Marriott as front desk supervisor, all through White Lodging Services. Marci earned her BA in Applied Arts and Sciences from Texas State University.

Nelda Rivas
Director of Housekeeping Services

Nelda’s specialty is grand openings; she has served as the director of housekeeping services at Querencia since our debut in 2007. She is responsible for keeping all our homes and common areas clean and inviting, as well as all community and personal laundry services. With more than 20 years of experience working in upscale hotels and guest services, she has earned high guest and resident satisfaction results for her superb work. Intercontinental Hotel awarded Nelda its national “Best of the Best” award for superior leadership and work performance. Nelda Rivas was awarded the 2011 Texas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (TASHA) Environmental Service Award. Nelda was selected among literally hundreds of nominees throughout Texas that fill the role of Director for Environmental Services.

Nadia Sharp
Lifestyles Director

Nadia joined Querencia in 2007 as Lifestyles Coordinator and has served as Acting Lifestyles Director since 2012. In 2011, she co-chaired our Memory Walk committee and raised a record-setting amount of donations. Nadia is a graduate of Purdue University in Indiana with a major in communications, emphasizing public relations. She previously worked for Landes Bio-science in Austin as managing editor of its scientific journals. She has been director of communications at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church and a public relations representative at Marion General Hospital in Marion, Indiana. Her background includes a creative services internship at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Ara Webb
Director of Finance and Concierge Services

Ara brings us a wide range of leadership skills in financial administration. She joins Querencia after a career as the accounting director for the American Heart Association, South Central Affiliate, in Austin. Ara has also served as senior accountant at Element Labs, Inc; assistant controller at Business Suites; staff accountant at SupportKids; accounts receivables manager at URS; and revenue adjuster at Dell Computers. She was also owner and operator of Longhair Sportscards in Austin. Ara holds an Associates degree in business administration from Austin Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, TX.

Fran Werner
Masterpiece Living/Wellness Manager

A fitness and wellness professional for over 35 years and a popular TV and radio guest, Fran has authored two books and many articles on healthy living. She is certified as a health fitness specialist, a health coach, a cancer exercise specialist, a Silver Sneakers instructor and a water fitness instructor. She holds a B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Master’s degree in Behavioral Sciences from the University of Chicago. She joined Querencia in 2008.

Kristina K. Williams
LNHA, Health Care Administrator at The Plaza

Kristina’s interest in serving the senior population began as a young adult, working her college breaks at an adult day-health center in Seattle, where she grew up. She completed her Bachelor’s degree at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She then worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at a home-style nursing facility. Kristina earned a Master’s degree in Applied Gerontology from the University of North Texas in Denton, specializing in Long-Term Care, Senior Housing, & Aging Services, with a minor in Business. To prepare for the position of Health Care Administrator, she spent a year in Maryland as ‘Administrator in Training’ at a large nursing facility in the 12th-largest single-campus senior living community in the nation. Kristina also holds experience in dementia care, as an activity director, and in independent living. Kristina says, “My vision of an excellent healthcare center is a place where staff provide not only high quality care, but also a consistent, superb level of customer service that enables residents to live as if they would at home. I am thrilled to be with The Plaza at Querencia, where providing a quality lifestyle, as well as excellent health care, are already priorities.”
